Becoming the Greatest of all time (G.O.A.T.)

Becoming the Greatest of all time (G.O.A.T.)

Introduction

I am not a sports fanatic or even a sports fan and so I had no idea about the terminology of G.O.A.T. until the recent Super Bowl game. The acronym G.O.A.T stands for the Greatest of All Time. Apparently, this started in 1992 when Muhammad Ali’s wife referred to him as the greatest and incorporated a company called G.O.A.T. to licence his intellectual property. However, the phrase G.O.A.T. became widespread since the 2000’s when L.L. Cool J released a song called G.O.A.T.

The Bible says there is nothing new under the sun and so while G.O.A.T. may not have been used prior to 1992, who is the greatest has been around for a very long time. In Matthew 11:11, it states that “Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.”

G.O.A.T.

There is a lot of discussion and arguments in Sports as to who is the G.O.A.T. In Basketball, it is Michael Jordan, in Boxing, it is Muhammad Ali, it is Tiger Woods in Golf, in Football, it is Tom Brady, in Swimming, it is Michael Phelps, in Tennis, it is Serena Williams and in Track and Field, it is Usain Bolt. These individuals are considered to be the best of the best in their respective sports.

While many of us may not be well-known or getting paid like these celebrities, aim to always be the best in whatever you do and I honestly believe that ultimately you will be rewarded handsomely for being the best of the best.

It takes excessive training to be a G.O.A.T. There are some individuals who are naturally gifted in what they do but it still requires a lot of training. No matter how good you are, there is always room for improvement. Furthermore, there always someone else trying to do the same thing as you and if you do not be prepared, someone else may be better prepared and capture the title of G.O.A.T. Training of course, is not just the physical aspect but also through obtaining more knowledge. Keep abreast of what is happening in your field and don’t be behind the times.

Once you are properly training, then constantly practice what you were trained to do. The more practice you do, the more you become better in what you do and then eventually you will be performing at your best. If you want to be a G.O.A.T, you have to perform at your best. Too many of us are performing below our levels but yet we want to be rewarded heavily for sub-performance.

Market yourself to be a G.O.A.T. There are many people who are doing the best and are perhaps better than some of those who are considered to be the best but no one has heard about them so to become a G.O.A.T. put your name out there and showcase yourself.

Conclusion

No matter who is the greatest of all time, you are not greater than being a citizen of the Kingdom of God. Therefore, while we should strive to be best in whatever we do, at the same time though, make sure become a part of the Kingdom of God. These accolades you receive here on earth will not save you or protect you if you are not part of the family of God.
