The election petitions are over

It is time to move on

.

Introduction

We held our elections on February 7th, 2025, and the PNP party was declared the party winning 16 of the 19seats. However, election petitions were filed for the Bight Constituency by the PNP Candidate and the for the Blue Hills Constituency by a supporter of the PDM party. The PDM party also filed a petition for the general elections to be considered null and void due to the issues with the ballots not being in line with the Ordinance.

Well after four months of public attention and court hearings, the election petition processes have come to an end with the Judge ruling no by-election in the Bight or Blue Hills and no fresh general elections for TCI.

Let us accept not only the rulings by the Judge but let us accept the outcome of the election. The judge noted that while there was an error on the ballot paper, it did not affect the outcome.  We must now turn the page and create a new chapter of moving forward together.

It is time to move on

It has been four months since our government began its second term in office.  They are moving slowly, considering they’ve already served four years in their first term. I don’t know if it is because of the election petitions but the election petition is now over, it is time for the government to focus on the issues that matter most to us such as healthcare, housing, cost of living and the safety of our communities.

We know that during the election campaign, it brings out so much division among us. However, now that it is finally over, it requires all of us to play an effective and meaningful role in our country. The Government must lead with humility and vision. The Government must also engage, consult and communicate with the people as often as possible. The Opposition must also do the same and hold the Government accountable. The residents should view the Government as “our Government”, not a PNP party Government. The residents must also remain committed and work together towards a better Turks and Caicos. This means we should not see one another as PNP or PDM but rather as Turks and Caicos Islanders. We need to embody the changes we wish to see in our nation.

Conclusion

We cannot change the results of the February 7th general election. Therefore, let us honour the democratic process. We have five years of this administration. While we should respect those in authority, we should not be silent because it is your party in power. Likewise, you should not be complaining or causing mischief because it is not your party in power. Let us start a new chapter together for a better and stronger Turks and Caicos. We can and must collaborate regardless of our political views.
