Farewell to Dr. Zaheeb Choudhry

Introduction

Dr. Zaheeb Choudhry has been our Nephrologist at the Turks and Caicos Hospitals for the past three years. He has left, but his legacy of compassion, excellence, and saving lives remains.

The Dialysis Unit is truly sorry to see Dr. Choudry leave us and thanks him for his outstanding service to all of us.  Honestly, words cannot fully describe Dr. Choudhry. His dedication, compassion, and commitment to his patients went far beyond what was expected, and his impact on our lives and our unit will never be forgotten.

About Dr. Choudhry

Dr. Choudhry’s impact reached far beyond dialysis services. With expertise in nephrology, internal medicine, and clinical immunology, he managed complex and often critical cases, stepping in when his skills were needed most. Many patients are alive today because of his knowledge, quick judgment, and unwavering dedication to their well-being. His dedication and willingness to go beyond the boundaries of his role set him apart as a physician of extraordinary commitment.

During his time in the Turks and Caicos, Dr. Choudhry fully assimilated into the country. He embraced our culture wholeheartedly, visiting all the islands and taking part in our local festivals, celebrations and other events. Through his genuine engagement, he formed meaningful connections and came to understand the people he served not only as patients but as a community.

Within the Dialysis Unit, Dr. Choudhry was admired not only for his clinical expertise, but also for his leadership, humility, and kindness. He worked closely with nurses, technicians, and support staff, fostering a team environment built on mutual respect and shared purpose. To those who worked alongside him, he was more than a doctor, he was also a mentor, a colleague, and a tireless advocate for patient care.

A rare and remarkable quality was his ability to speak seven languages, which allowed him to communicate effectively with a diverse patient population in Turks and Caicos. This skill broke down language barriers, fostered understanding, and ensured patients felt heard, reassured, and cared for during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.

Conclusion

As Dr. Choudhry moves on to the next chapter of his journey, we again extend heartfelt thanks and best wishes to him. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched, the standards he elevated, and the gratitude of a community that will never forget him.

While we understand that no one comes to serve in TCI forever and that time here is often temporary, Dr. Choudhry’s footsteps will be exceptionally hard to follow.  It is our sincere hope that he may one day return, even if only from time to time, as a locum to once again serve the people whose lives he has already touched.
