If there is a time, we need to fight the good fight of faith, it is now. Fear is on the increase since the emergence of this ugly virus called COVID 19 and fear is spreading like wildfire. The media is playing a very important role as usual in creating fear. They are focusing a lot on the number of positive cases with little being said about the recovering cases. It is true that this virus is killing people but so are other viruses and diseases.
The fear of catching this virus has created an economic impact like nothing before. People are not going out and they are not travelling. As a result, businesses are closing, and people are without jobs and more fear is created by worrying and fretting about the uncertainty, the financial being and health of people.
I agree we must be wise in everything we do but we must not be afraid of what we see happening. We must fight the food fight of Faith. 1 Timothy 6:12 states “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.”
The definition of faith is in Hebrews 11:1 which is as follows “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
According to the dictionary, fear is “an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat.”
How to fight the good fight of faith?
Walk by the Spirit
One of the keys to fight the good fight of faith is to walk by the Spirit. However, in order to do this, we need to put away our fleshy desires. Our fleshy desires will cause us to become fearful and move away from the faith. Galatians 5:16 states that “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh”. You can walk in the Spirit by mediating on the word of God daily and when you do this, the word saturates your mind and increases your faith. When you don’t meditate on the word, you will find yourself becoming weak and then end up falling for the trap of the enemy which is to put fear in your life. Another way to walk by the Spirit is to listen frequently to sound doctrine being taught by men and women of God. Don’t spend your energy engaging in worldly talks otherwise you may become preoccupied with the world and not the word of God.
While you walk by the Spirit, pray in the Spirit and when you pray, pray that the COVID 19 will disappear.
You must stand firm in your faith. You cannot be wishy washy. One way to stand firm is to be patient and never give up despite how things may look. You must remember that what you are going through is temporary therefore lay hold onto eternal life and do not waver. In Romans 4:20-21 stated that “Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, 21 being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.”
No matter how the outcome of COVID 19 looks, stand firm and believe that a breakthrough will take place to eliminate COVID 19.
Submit to God and flee from the devil
The enemy is the one that is creating fear among you. Fear is not from God for he has not given us a Spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind.
Therefore, in order to fight the good fight of faith, we need to submit ourselves to God. Romans 4:17 states, that Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
When you resist the devil, you will be able to flee from the things of the enemy and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience and meekness. With these attributes, you can fight the good fight of faith.
How many of us have submitted requests to God regarding the COVID 19? Let us submit our requests to God and believe without a shadow of doubt that COVID 19 virus will miraculously disappear.
We can fight the good fight of faith. This requires action on our part too for faith without works is dead. With faith, we have the power to achieve anything and if you know this and believe it then you cannot stop fighting the good fight of faith.
Do not let the impact of COVID 19 create a fear in you. Let us pray for an end to this pandemic and let us believe with all of our hearts that COVID 19 will come to end soon and we will be restored. Job fought the good fight of faith and all that was taken from him was restored.
