Introduction

It is this time of the year when the USA has set aside a day called Thanksgiving Day. The Turks and Caicos has also set aside a day called the National Day of Thanksgiving. During this time, I challenged us to reflect and document the things and people you are thankful for and retain that document as a daily reminder.

Too many times we take things and people for granted. As you review your list of things and people, I know you will realize that you ought to be more grateful and thankful. Furthermore, the Bible tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

Be thankful to and for God

Be thankful for God for being our protector, our deliverer and our Saviour. You know had it not being for God, we would not be where we are today. Others may want to take credit but let us give credit where credit is due, and that credit belongs to God.

Be thankful to your family

I know many of us experience ups and downs among our family but don’t let those fights cause you to create a distance from your family. It is the plan of the enemy to break up and destroy families. Your family is your family and that is something you cannot change. Therefore, be thankful for your spouse, children, parents, grandparents, great grandparents, siblings, nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws. Maintain communication on a regular basis. I know many of us are so busy but don’t be too busy to forget your family.

Be thankful to your friends

I do not have many friends but the few I have; I am thankful for them. Do not abuse or use your friends. There are some friends who are closer to your family. Maintain contact with your friends. Do not wait until you want or need something from them.

Be thankful to the teachers

Our teachers are so important. It is them that taught us how to read and write. It is them that taught us and provided the knowledge for our careers. Some teachers are like parents to our children. Let us be thankful for our teachers.

Be thankful for the nurses and doctors

I believe every family has a member that has a health issue. It is the wisdom, knowledge and experience that God has given our nurses and doctors to improve the state of our health. I am personally grateful for the nurses in the dialysis centers.

Be thankful for technology

I am forever grateful for the advancement of technology. Machines have been created as a kidney which in turn helps people to extend their life. This is very personal for me and so I am thankful. Let us be thankful for telecommunications technology. We have the internet and through the internet, we can communicate with our friends and family without physically going to them in person.

Be thankful for your talents

I know some of you may think you do not have talent, but everybody has talent. There is something that you are very good in and love. There is no one like so be thankful.

Be thankful for your job and business

Some of you are employees and some of you are employers. Be thankful. There are many people who wish they were employed or are entrepreneurs.

Conclusion

Be thankful for life. It may not be the way you want it to be, but it will get better. Do not focus on the negative things in your life. In fact, if you do, then challenge yourself to transform the negative things into something positive. I believe you have a lot to be thankful for so write down 100 things you are thankful for.
