Is the reduction in the fear of the Lord causing an increase in crime?

The Lord Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy,
he is the one you are to fear,
he is the one you are to dread. Isaiah 8:13

Introduction

Some argue that with development we should expect an increase in crime. This is not necessarily true at all. The issue is that when we were underdeveloped, God was at the center of our lives. We went to Church, morning, afternoon and night and we feared the Lord. Today we are a developing country, some of us have more than we need, some of us do not go to Church because we do not have time and perhaps because some of us do not believe in God. The difference between now and the former years is that we have reduced our dependence on God and have become less fearful of him.

Because we are fearing God less, we are being used by the enemy and have become reckless, robbing people, raping children and adults, killing people and the list goes on and on. Therefore, another root cause of crime is that some of us have no fear of God.

What is fear of God?

The fear of God is the beginning of the wisdom and knowledge of the Holy One is Understanding. (Proverbs 9:10). The word of God is full of knowledge. Therefore, we need to study the word, meditate on the word, understand it, apply it and live by it.

What does the fear of God has to do with crime reduction?

The word of God says we should not kill. If we fear God, we will not kill.

The word of Gods says we should love one another. If we fear God, we will love each other, we will not try to abuse others, we will not take advantage of others, we will not rob others and we will not steal from others.

If we fear God, we will hate evil (Proverbs 8:13). Committing crime is an evil act.

If we fear God, you will know that there are seven things that are detestable to the Lord (Proverbs 6:16-19) one of which includes hands that shed innocent blood.

If we fear God, you will know that murder defiles you as a person.

Use the word of God as a tool to reduce crime

It is unfortunate that the criminals appear to have no fear for anyone. Some of them are very heartless. Some of them killed people even after they already get what they want. Perhaps it is because their hearts are evil. No one with a good heart would commit some of the crimes that ae taking place unless they have extreme mental issues.

Therefore, it is important that we spread the word of God to everyone. We should not be intimidated by the intelligence and beliefs of others. We have tried many different tactics to reduce crime but they do not seem to be working.

The missing element is the word of God. We must ensure that we find ourselves in church all of the time and we need to live by God’s word in the work place, school and at home.

Conclusion

If we truly want to see a reduction in crime, get to know God sincerely through his word. I honestly believe if we fear God, even if we are tempted to commit crimes, we will resist the temptations.

You may say what about those persons who say they are Christians but are living a life contrary to the Word of God. The truth is not everyone who says they are Christians are born again. Another thing is that we all face temptations on a daily basis. We need to be grounded in the Word all of the time so that we leave no room for the Devil to enter because according to Romans 7:21, when you try to do good, evil is right there present with you.
