It is time to wake up from your slumber.

Waking Up

It is time to wake up from your slumber.

“And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.” Romans 13:11

Introduction

As a result of the increase in crime and the increase in the number of COVID 19 cases, many of us are experiencing sleepless nights. We cannot sleep because we are afraid that we will be attacked while asleep. We cannot sleep because we are up worrying and fretting about where your employment and financial condition.

Therefore, physically some of us are awake but spiritually we are in a slumber state. We still think the Saviour to our issues is men particularly politicians and so sometimes we compromise our position with the real Saviour and fall asleep spiritually. We do not pray as we should. We do not read the word as we should. We do not give God thanks as we should. We are in a slumber state

Wake up and pray

Too many of us are not praying. We are only praying when we want something. We are only praying for ourselves. It is time for us to wake up and pray continuously. Of course pray alone is not the answer, we have to seek God’s face and we have to turn from our wicked ways. Many times we expect answers to our prayers but we do not change our ways. We continue to live in sin. It is time to wake up. Wake up in the morning and pray. Wake up in the evening and pray. Do not let a day go by that you do not pray. Prayer changes things so we have to pray because believe it or not, while we are sleeping spiritually, the enemy is awake doing all he can to keep us in a slumber state.

Remember in Mark 14 when Jesus went to Gethsemane to pray, he took some of his disciples with him and he told them to sit there and watch. When Jesus returned from praying, he met the disciples sleeping and he asked them if they couldn’t keep watch for one hour. Some of us cannot stay up and pray but we can stay up and watch TV and other programs on social media.

Jesus further told the disciples in Mark 14:38 “watch and pray you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.”

Wake up and do something

I know the foundation of the Christianity is faith and so many of us are living just by faith. However, faith without works is dead. Too many of us are sleeping spiritually expecting to wake and get everything we want or need without working towards it. If you need something, just believing for it will not bring you that something. Someone needs to know that you need you something. You need to tell someone that you need something. As I mentioned in a previous article, if you are unemployed, having faith alone will not get the job, you need to apply for the job you need.

Stop sleeping and being idle. Do something to make a change. Put your thoughts and speeches in actions. The word of the Lord says in Proverbs 20:13 “Do not love sleep or you will grow poor;
stay awake and you will have food to spare.”

Wake up and study

Wake up and study the word of God. There are too many theories out there creating a lot of confusion and doubt. The best thing to do is study and meditate on the word of God daily. Let it be your weapon and protection against the enemy and these other beliefs and other Gods. Remember the story about the sailors that were on the boat with Jonah. During their time, there was a great wind, and the sailors cried out to their God but their God could not help them. Jonah in the meantime was sleeping and the captain woke him up and Jonah explained to him that he was a Hebrew and he worshipped the God of Heaven. Jonah told them what to do in order for the storm to be calm. The men eventually the Lord and made vows to the Lord.

It is time for us to wake up and study the word of God to know our God. You will be amazed how much you will uncovered during your study of the Word of God. It is like every time there is a revelation and better understanding which helps you grow spiritually. After all, we are in a spiritual warfare.

Wake up and realize that the end is near

Many of us may be caught off guard about what is happening in the world especially after the emergence of COVID 19. However, wake up and realize that what is happening in front of us is no surprise to God. Wake up and realize that the timing of his return is closer than before.  The signs are here. Stop sleeping and living in a dream world. The end is near therefore submit your life to God and live a spiritual life.

Conclusion

I will conclude with Romans 13:12-14 The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. 13 Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. 14 Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.”
