Live as an example of Christ

Reconciliation of two students

Live as an example of Christ

Practice the word of God in action.

Introduction

There is so much confusion, hatred, unforgiveness, greed, poverty, and turmoil in this world to a point whereby it looks like the circumstances are getting worse day by day. However, I know if we were live our lives as examples of Christ, things can get better.  Ephesians 5:1 state “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.” Too many of us are living our lives contrary to the word of God and yet we wonder why there are so many issues in the world.

How do we live as an example of Christ?

One of the things we need to do is to walk in love. This will require many of us to forgive.  Some people have done you wrong. They have thrown shade at you. They have betrayed you. They turned their backs on you. They dislike them. Love them despite what they do. This is living as an example of Christ. Walking in love also requires us to look at each other as one race and as our brothers and sisters in Christ. There is a lot of hatred because of who you are, where you are from and the colour of your skin. This is not living as an example of Christ. Christ sees all of us as one so why don’t we do the same.

You see if we walk in love, there will be less hatred, less fighting, there will be unity. Some of us love our political party more than we love our brothers and sisters who are on the other side, some of us put love for our country over love for people from other countries.   Some of us just love people of one race.

As an example of Christ, we must also love our enemies. We don’t need to be revengeful and hold malice in our hearts to your enemies. Maybe if you show love, they will no longer be your enemies.

To live as an example of Christ, there should not be any hint of sexual immorality, or any kind of impurity or greed. As imitators of God, we should not be involved in this type of lifestyle. There is so much sexual immorality taking place in this world and as result relationships are being destroyed and there is a widespread sexually transmitted disease. No one is perfect.  You will be faced with temptations to commit sexual immorality. Our eyes can get us in a lot of trouble. Control yourself and resist temptations.  We can use Joseph as an example, he could have committed sexual immorality with Potiphar’s’ wife but he ran away. How many of us will run away or just give in.  You see a lot of these behaviours on shows that encourage you to commit sexual immorality, and that is why it is important for us to be careful what we watch.

Greed is one of the most pressing issues in the world. Some of us have enough and yet we want more. Some of us don’t have any and so we pursue a lifestyle of greed to get what you want. We must learn to be content. Greed is going to cause you to do some things you should not do. Greed is going to cause you to perhaps lie, steal and cheat.  Don’t become greedy. Be satisfied and live as an example of Christ.

As imitators of Christ, we should also not be engaging in obscenity, foolish talk, or coarse joking but rather thanksgiving. How many times do we give thanks? In fact, many times we are probably complaining and doing all sorts of foolishness. These are not examples of Christ.

 Conclusion

As I end this article, I want to encourage us to be kind to others and treat people the way you would want to be treated. Consider the story about the Good Samaritan who helped a stranger. How many of us pass people by and not show any kindness or empathy towards them.

If we really want a better world, then live as an example of Christ.  Let us practice what we preach.
