The wisest way is to follow the word of God
Introduction
Our world is in trouble, and we are in trouble because we are living in an unwise culture. The reason our culture is unwise is because many of us have remove God out of the equation. If we take God out of our lives, more than likely it means we do not fear of God and the word of Lord says in Proverbs 9:1, the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
On Sunday, June 26th, 2022, I was one of the speakers at Harvest Bible Chapel and the topic was living wisely in an unwise culture based on the book of Titus 2:1-5.
“You, however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine. 2 Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance. 3 Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4 Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.
Teach Sound Doctrine
Whatever we teach, let it be sound doctrine and the sound doctrine is the word of God. You cannot go wrong if you live according to the word of God. You will go wrong if you live according to the standards of the world, and we see the standards of the world are always changing but the word of God never changes.
Too many of us are teaching things to fit the world, we are teaching things what people want to hear as opposed to what the Word of God says and as a result there is a lot of chaos and confusion. I know sometimes some of the things that you hear and are being taught seem so wise and profound but it if it is contrary to the word of God, then more than likely it is unsound.
Temperate
Temperate means to be sober and vigilant. Sober and vigilant means to strong and watchful and alert. Too many of us especially are consuming too much alcohol and are getting drunk and are incoherent when they make decisions. You see if you are not alert and you are not strong, you will fall for anything and ultimately living unwisely. The devil comes in many forms, and you need to recognize that and so it is important to be able to withstand the enemy and to do so, you need to put on the full armour of God
Worthy of respect
Be respectful. Be respectful to yourself and to do so, maintain a good character and integrity. If you do not respect yourself, how can you expect others to respect you. Be respectful to your parents, be respectful to the community. Be respectful to your family. If you are a married or in a relationship with someone, respect your marriage and that relationship.
Self-Controlled
One of the greatest downfalls of men is that we cannot control ourselves. Some of us must also learn to control what comes out of our mouths because once you say something, you cannot take it back. The word of Lords says in Jams 1:19 My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,
We must learn to practice self-controlled daily. It is not easy, but it is possible. There are too men having so many children by so many different women and that is because they have not practiced self-controlled. These children end up suffering due to the absence of these fathers and some of them unfortunately live unwisely.
Sound in Faith
Many of us are living our lives in fear and then you begin to worry, panic and loose hope. Some of you may turn away from God because of your lack of faith. We must be grounded in faith. We must trust God. We must believe God, no matter how things look. Faith is what will maintain us in living wisely.
Sound in Love
God is love and he wants us to love one another. However, the world is full of hatred and then you end up becoming jealous and some people end up killing people. The world is messed up because of hate but love covers a multitude of sin. If we love one another, we will help one another, we will look out for one another. I know it is not easy to love someone that does you or your family wrong but if we want to live a wise life, we need to start loving one another even those that did us wrong.
Sound in Endurance
We live now in a microwave world as we want things instantly. We cannot wait. People will come with you with all sorts of quick ways to get things done but if they don’t line up with God, don’t do it.
God wants us to endure. God wants us to persevere. The very time you are about to give up may be the time you are about to get a breakthrough. Some of us who are married do not have the patience, one little argument you want a divorce, and the cycle continues. This is unwise.
Conclusion
I know it is very easy to fall in the trap of living in this unwise culture but honestly it is not worth it. These things and this world will come to an end soon. If you want to live with God forever, then live wisely and that is live in accordance with the word of God.
