Overcoming Self doubt

“Stop doubting and believe”

Introduction

Last week, I wrote an article on being your greatest support and in that article, I mentioned you have to believe in yourself. Therefore this article is to highlight how you can overcome self-doubt.

You see self-doubt is not new as Thomas also experienced doubtfulness when the disciples told him they had seen Jesus. As far as Thomas was concerned, Jesus was dead and despite the fact that the disciples told him they saw Jesus, he did not believe. This is what Thomas said to the disciples, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” A week later, Jesus came in the house where Thomas and the disciples were and Jesus told Thomas “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”  Jesus further told Thomas “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those have not seen and yet have believe.”

How about you? Do you have to see something to believe it? There are many times in life you will not be able to see and if you are a Christian, your foundation should be based on belief. Of course, it is natural to have feelings of doubt but you should not live your life doubting yourself otherwise your goals in life will be delayed or not achieved.

Here are a few tips from my personal experiences that you can use to overcome self-doubt.

You got to have faith

One of the first thing you have to do is to have faith. Everything you do and everything you want to do, believe it will happen. Even if it does not happen when you want it to happen, believe it will eventually happen especially if you know that is what you were destined to do. In order to have faith, you have to build up yourself spiritually and look at the examples in the Bible where individuals were able to make it life through faith. You should not be quoting scriptures on faith and don’t believe what you say. Faith and belief come hand in hand so learn to believe. Stop looking at your present situation as the end. You have a great future ahead of you. Just believe.

Reflect on your previous breakthroughs

I know some of you are still waiting on some breakthroughs but some of you have had some successful breakthroughs in the past but yet you are doubting about the present and the future. I encourage you to reflect on your previous breakthroughs and remember that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. He came through for you in the past and he will come through for you today and forever.

Surround yourself with positivity

Sometimes you experience self-doubt because of the people in your environment. People can make you doubt yourself especially if they don’t believe in what you are doing. Furthermore, you may be reading a lot of things about your situation and they all appear negative. Remember in every situation, there may be positive and negative outcomes. Focused always on the positive outcome and this comes with having faith. In addition, find a way to remove yourself from an environment that is toxic and find a positive and an encouraging environment.

Conclusion

Experiencing doubtfulness is common among most people but you need to be alert and start thinking positive. You can become what you think. When I was growing up, I believed all the negativity people say about me and as result I grew up most of life being doubtful. Therefore, think positive no matter the negative things people say about you. Don’t believe them.  Believe you will achieve no matter what obstacles come your way.
