Rest

GET SOME REST.

God did it and Your Body needs it.

Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest. Mark 6:31

Introduction

Last Saturday was a wakeup call for me. I was very dizzy and had to sit on the ground immediatelyand soon thereafter I was laying on the ground, vomiting. Thank God my twin boys were with me and were able to get help.

I still do not know why I experienced that encounter but what I do know that as a result of that incident, it made me realized that I am working too hard and not giving myselfadequate rest. Therefore, I am writing this article to encourage others to take some rest.

God rested and so should we.

In Genesis 2:2, God illustrated to us that we should rest as he himself rested on the seventh day after he completed the task of the creation of the world.

Many of us have completed various tasks and continue to work non-stop without taking any rest. If God took a rest then we should do likewise.

The Bible clearly sets an example of how we should live and I know that God wants us to rest.

We are working so hard but yet not satisfied.

There are so many of us working so hard yet not satisfy.  Some people have two and three jobs and don’t have any time for rest or family. Entrepreneurs are working constantly, not taking breaks or rest. People are working hard for more and more but at the end of the day, we must ask ourselves why we are working hard and who are we working hard for.

Ecclesiastes 6:7 states that all the labour of man is for his mouth and yet the soul is not satisfied.

God forbid if you die but if you do, someone else will do the work, someone else will have your job, someone else will take over your family.

Give yourself some rest from working so hard. Satisfy your soul by getting a lot of rest, spending more quality time with God and your family.

Rest Restores Your Body and Improves Your Health

Getting the right amount of sleep improves your health condition. Sleep improves your immune system, your memory and possibly extends your life.

Lack of sleep on the other hand may result in diabetes, obesity, heart disease and sleep apnea.

Our God knew exactly what he did when he created our bodies. Our bodies need rest and should we fail to give our bodies rest, our bodies will start to fail.

God values our bodies and therefore we should value and honour our body and one way to do so is through rest.

19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;20 you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.  (1 Corinthians 6 19-20)

Conclusion

We spend so many hours in the day pursuing the materials things of this world where it reaches a point where it takes a toll on our bodies. Do not wait until your body start letting you know you need to rest. Take a rest and ensure that you get the appropriate hours of sleep. Pursue the Word of God and spend as much time as possible with your family and friends.
