Stay in your lane! A recipe for success.

Road lanes

Stay in your lane! A recipe for success.

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” Hebrews 12:1

They confronted King Uzziah and said, “It is not right for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the LORD. That is for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, who have been consecrated to burn incense. Leave the sanctuary, for you have been unfaithful; and you will not be honored by the LORD God.” 2 Chronicles 26:16

Introduction
In the field of sports, the athletes must stay in their lane in order to have an opportunity to win a medal. If somehow, they come out of their lanes, they will be disqualified. For example, our very own Delano Williams participated in an Olympics relay team and the entire country was so excited because his team was about to get a medal. Unfortunately upon a review of the race, it was discovered that one of the team members was out of the lane as a result the team was disqualified. If only that member was alert and had stayed in his lane, the team would have been successful.

Run with perseverance
There is a race marked out for each of us. Once you discover what that race is, run with perseverance and win. Stay in your lane and don’t look on the side of you to see how others are doing otherwise you may become distracted. Stay focused and look straight ahead to win the race. You may get tired but don’t give up. Keep running towards the prize.

Don’t imitate others
Sometimes we imitate and are drawn to others that appear to be successful. We talk like others, we walk like others and we pursue the same things they pursued hoping to be successful. While you may earn some money by imitating others, you may not enjoy what you are doing. You may also feel intimidated by imitating others especially if they are something better than you. Stop imitating others. You are unique. You have a gift within you. Stay in your lane and pursue that gift and become happy. If you are happy, then you are on the road to success. After all, your gift will make room for you.(Proverbs 18:16)

Mind your own business
Sometimes we take matters upon ourselves and instruct others what we think they should do or shouldn’t do. Mind your own business and let people stay in the lane that they were marked for. Don’t let anyone force you to go in a lane that you were not called to do. Some of us even usurp authority to make decisions for others without even knowing the calling of others resulting in a recipe for disaster.

Stay in your lane
In 2 Chronicles 26, King Uziah burned incense but it was not his responsibility to do so. It was the responsibility of the priests. Because he did not stay in his lane, leprosy broke out on his forehead.
In another story in 1 Samuel 13, Saul offered burn offering when he saw the men began to scattered and Samuel was not around at the agreed time. Samuel told Saul he did a foolish thing and because he did, his kingdom did not endure.
When you stay in your lane, you are bound to have success. When you cross the lane, you are going to lose the race even if physically it appeared that you won.

Conclusion
There may be many who may disagree with the statement “Stay in your lane”. People may argue that in order to be successful, you may have to move out of your lane and try something different. It is fine to try something different but whatever you try, let it be in your lane. There are so many things within you that are perhaps lying dormant and it requires you to activate it. You just need to know if that is the race you were marked for.
