For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; 23 but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. (Romans 7:22-23)
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. (Philippians 4:8)
Introduction
One of the major struggles in our lives is our thoughts. We are doing our best trying to occupy our mind on things that are true and things that are right but somehow from time to time we find ourselves drifting thinking about things that are not of God. Therefore it is important for us to control our thoughts rather than our thoughts controlling us.
“Watch your thoughts, they become your words; watch your words, they become your actions; watch your actions, they become your habits; watch your habits, they become your character; watch your character, it becomes your destiny.” (Lao Tzu)
Do not act on everything you think
According to Romans 7:21, even though you want to do good, evil is present. Therefore, it is important for you to recognize that the enemy will attack your mind for that is where sin starts. However, when you get thoughts that are not right, do not act on them. Unfortunately, some people act on everything that comes to their mind for they believe these thoughts are normal. If you find yourself thinking impure thoughts on a consistent basis, pray and seek counselling. I know the world we live in is full of chaos and confusion as a result of persons carrying out their thoughts. Because of the mental state of others, there is so much killing, molestation, abuse and the feeling of unloved and unworthiness. The enemy is using your mind to carry out these dreadful acts. However, the devil is a liar as he wants to destroy and kill and he is planting seeds in your mind to carry out his agenda. You do not have to act on what you think. The mind can be rescued from these evil thoughts.
Be careful what you see
Most times, some of the things we think about are based on what we see. There is so much toxic and explicit stuff on shows today such as nudity, adultery, murder and gives people ideas in their mind. Therefore we have to be careful what we watch otherwise your mind can become toxic and then you may end up acting on your thoughts based on what you see.
I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me. (Psalms 101:3)
Live in accordance with Spirit
According to Romans 8:5, “Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.”
The key to keep your mind intact is to get rid of your fleshy desires and live and walk in accordance with the Spirit. Of course, it is a challenge because the flesh is always waring against the Spirit. Stay in the word, repent of your sins and focused on God. Review and meditate on scriptures about the mind. Furthermore, meditate on scriptures regarding issues you are encountering such as worry and anxiety
Conclusion
There is a popular saying that the mind is a terrible thing to waste and I believe that saying is true. I mentioned in one of articles about experiencing a panic attack. Since that attack, more thoughts come to my mind about panic attacks. However, when those thoughts come, I start talking with God immediately and rebuke those thoughts, otherwise, I probably would experience more panic attacks.
Control what you think by focusing on thoughts about Jesus Christ. Therefore, fight this battle by the word of God. However, you have to believe in the word of God.
