The struggle to stay good and do right is real but don’t lose the war

I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.  24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?  25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.” Romans 7:21-25

Introduction

I believe many of us have intentions of doing the right things but it is a struggle. It is struggle because whenever we try to do well, evil is right there. However, even though evil is present when you are trying to do good, be cognizant of that principle and do not fall for the trap of the enemy?  No matter how mature you are, you will be confronted with these two worlds, the world of evil and the world of good. You need to be strong enough to overcome the temptations and do what is right. The moment you do what is wrong, you will face many disasters in your life. You may not experience the setbacks immediately but you will and your actions will also impact your children and their children. Sometimes we wonder why our children behave the way they behave, well it is because of some of the actions of us.

The wrong you did may feel good in the moment but trust me you do not want to go on that road. You will be on a road of guilt and disappointment.

The struggle is real and sometimes when we commit our lives to God, we feel that the struggle will be over. The struggle may intensified because the enemy does not want you to do well and so he will do all he can to win you over with all manner of evil.

Overcoming the Struggles

All things are possible and even though evil is present whenever you try to do good, you do not have to do evil. You can overcome the struggles.

  • Be alert. Recognize that you are in war and whenever you try to do right, the enemy will come in the way to tempt you do wrong.
  • Stay grounded in the word and meditate on the word.
  • Be careful of the company you keep. You may end up just becoming like your company. Therefore surround yourself with people that do good.
  • Draw the line and don’t get to close to people.
  • Control your thoughts and think of those things that are pure and things that are good.
  • If you cannot control yourself, always take your spouse with you.
  • Pray always. Never stop praying. It is through prayer that will help you overcome the struggles.
  • Be fearful of God. If you fear God, you will not do evil.
  • Always assume some one is watching you.
  • Think about your family and friends and even people that you will hurt.

Conclusion

The struggle to do good at all times is real. Sometimes we are surprise when we hear about leaders in the church that fall into temptation. They are humans too and they are not perfect. However, no one should be acting holier than thou and condemning individuals that end up doing evil. Sometimes while we are busy condemning others of sinful acts, we are doing the same thing we are accusing others of.

Remember the truth always comes out so the best thing to do is do the right thing. No matter how tempted you are, do not do it otherwise you will suffer major consequences and you will take a long time to recover.
