You are what you think

“For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” Proverbs 4:23

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” Philippians 4:8

 

Introduction

Our society today is plagued with so much negativity to the extent that it seems like being negative isa natural part our culture.  Negativity breeds unforgiveness, hatred, jealousy, division and separation from God. If we want things to change in our society, then change the way we think about each other. (Now don’t confuse negativity with constructive criticism)

 

Meditate on the Word of God

When you meditate and think on something day and night, it becomes a part of your life. Consequently, you become and live what you think.   I will share two verses that demonstrate this. Proverbs 23:7 states “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.”.  Proverbs 4:23 “Be careful how you think, your life is shaped by your thoughts. Therefore, it is important as part of our Christian life, that we meditate on the Word of God daily, thinking about the things that are true, things that are honest things that are just, things that are pure, things that are lovely and things that are of good report. (Philippians 4:8). My friends if we think of these things, our lives will be transformed, our thoughts will be positive, the things we think, say and write about others will be favourable thus making our society a great place. Therefore throughout the day and night meditate on the Word of God and repeat some of the words such as I am fearfully and wonderfully made, I am Blessed and Highly Favoured, I am the Head and not the Tail, I am Above and Not Beneath, I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me,I love the Lord and will love my neighbor as I love myself. “All of us are one in the eyes of the Lord.”

 

Think Good About Yourself and Others

You are a gift from God and every good gift comes from God. Because you are gift from God, you should think good about yourself and others. The Devil will plant a seed of doubt in you making you feel that you are nobody because you are from a certain background, country or family. Despite how you came into this world, God has a purpose for you to fulfil. He does not make mistakes. Recognize that we are all one in Christ and no one is better than you and you are not better than anyone so think good about yourself and other people at all times.However, I do caution you not to think of yourself more highly than you ought to. (Romans 12:3)

 

Renew Your Mind –Do Not Dwell on the Past

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires;23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds;24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. (Ephesians 4:22-24)

Many of us have a negative past that the Devil wishes to remind you about and as a result it is difficult to move on. Renew your mind and recognize it is the plan of the enemy to destroy you with reminders of your past. Rebuke those thoughts. You may not get over those thoughts immediately but you can over time. You will have some reminders but do not dwell or act on the past because you have a bright future ahead of you.Think of the great promises that God has for, plans to prosper you, not plans to harm you. The word said “cast down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 2 Corinthians 10:5

 

Surround Yourself with Positive People

Sometimes we can easily be influence by the environment we are in. We may be in a negative environment and hence we think so negative about ourselves and others. If you find it difficult to get out your environment, perhaps you can change the environment by speaking positive things. If you cannot change it, and you want to change the way you are, then do not surround yourself with negative people.

 

Look for the positive out of all “bad situations”

Sometimes, we look at the bad situations as they are. However, be calm and review the situations and see what positive message is coming from it. You see God uses the foolish things of this world to shame the world. It may look like foolishness to you but it may not. Furthermore, the Bible says for those that love God, all things work together for good, for those who are call for his purpose. (Romans 8:28). Therefore, I encourage you in every bad situation, think about a positive message that is coming out of it.

 

Be wary about what you see and hear

The things that we see and can have a significant impact on your lives. They may become part of your subconscious mind therefore watch and listen to things that are good and pure.

 

Conclusion

We truly are what we think. Our society is falling because of all of the negative thoughts. We think the worst of individuals even our own selves. I believe there is good in everyone. Think Positive, Be Positive and you will have a Positive life and a Positive Community.
