Introduction
Everybody has a role to play, and politicians have a role to play. They set policies and they set budgets for capital expenditure and recurring expenditure. As many policies as politicians set, they are meaningless if you as the electorate do not do anything about it. That is why I labelled my tag line for this article “You can lead a horse to the water, but you cannot make them drink it.”
This is the political season, and some politicians and supporters will use psychology and emotion on you to convince you that your success depends on the political party in power. Let me tell you something if you do not know this already, your success depends on you, not on a political party or a politician.
Your success depends on you.
There are so many successful people in this world, and they did not achieve their success because of politicians. Likewise, there are many successful people in the Turks and Caicos, and it did not happen because of their connections to a political party. Mind you, there are some people that have become successful financially by renting their buildings to the Government and winning Government tenders. However, there are so many opportunities beyond Government contracts.
First, you must believe in yourself. You must also believe that you have a purpose in this world. Once you have identified your purpose, research what it takes to achieve your purpose. Your purpose may involve a lot of cash outlay and you may not have the cash. Prepare a business plan and borrow the funds to get what you want. If you do not want to borrow, then save your money towards achieving your success. In fact, you may discover you can start with the little you in your hand.
You must be willing to take the risks. The greater the risk the greater the reward. Some of you are not successful, because you are afraid. You must overcome fear to succeed.
You also must determine what success is to you. Is it about making money? Is it about achieving your goals?
There are people in this country who are not from and who are not politically affiliated, and they are doing well and that is because they saw the need, they took the risk, and they pursued their goals. You too can do the same thing. There are many opportunities in this country for you. You can become successful.
Your suffering will not come to an end because of a political party in power. Your suffering will come to an end because you did something about it. You rose up and took your position.
Your success may depend on going on enrolling and completing college. Of course, the Government provides scholarships and grants, but you must be the one to apply for it. Also, not everyone will get a scholarship or grant due to the limitations of the budget You also must meet the requirements. You must be the one to study hard and succeed in college. Furthermore, I believe it is the parents’ responsibility to ensure they have funds for their children’s education.
Your success may depend on getting that desired job. You must be the one to work hard and do well on the job. You must be the one to apply for the job. In the public sector, Government provides job, but you have to apply for them and perform.
Your success may depend on becoming an entrepreneur. The government may provide grants for your business. However, you have to apply for it and you have to start our business and make your business succeed. Nobody can start it for you. Promote your business, network with others, be reliable and offer exceptional customer service.
Conclusion
Do not sit around waiting for your political party to get in power thinking things will turn around for you. Things will turn around for you if you make them turn around for yourself. Your success truly depends on you. With that being said, I encourage you to conduct yourself well on the job, in school, at home and in the public domain. People are watching you and your behaviour also help you to succeed. No one will want to work with you if you don’t behave well.
